Costa Rica is one of the greenest countries in the world, famous for its biodiversity, national parks, volcanoes and beaches on both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts.

Climate

Tropical, with a dry season (December to April) and a rainy season (May to November).

Languages

Spanish is official. English is spoken in tourist areas.

Driving

Drive on the right. There aren’t many highways, but some main roads have tolls. Secondary roads can be narrow and winding.

Camping

Wild camping is allowed in some coastal and rural areas, but it is safer to use regulated campsites.

Biker Zones

Scenic roads include the routes between volcanoes (Arenal, Poás) and the Pacific and Caribbean coasts.

Special Zones

San José has heavy traffic and paid parking areas.
