Brasil is the largest country in South America and the fifth largest in the world. It is known for its cultural diversity, beaches, rainforests and cities such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Salvador. The country stands out for its samba, soccer and the Amazon, the largest green lung on the planet.
Climate
Predominantly tropical, with great regional variation: equatorial in the Amazon, semi-arid in the northeast, subtropical in the south.
Languages
Portuguese is the official language. There are communities that speak indigenous languages, as well as immigration that has brought German, Italian and Japanese to some regions.
Driving
You drive on the right. Freeways (“rodovias”) may have tolls, paid manually in booths (cash or card). The country has a lot of roads, but they vary in quality.
Camping
Wild camping is neither common nor safe in urban or heavily populated areas. There are regulated campsites, especially in tourist areas.
Biker Zones
The coastal roads (e.g. BR-101), the Serra do Rio do Rastro and the Estrada Real in Minas Gerais are iconic routes for motorcyclists.
Special Zones
Large cities such as São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro have traffic restriction zones (e.g. car rotation in SP), pedestrian areas and controlled parking.
Be careful when traveling through these cities on a motorcycle.
