French Guiana is an overseas territory of France located in the north of South America. It is known for its Amazon rainforest, cultural diversity and the Kourou Space Center, one of the most important in the world.
Climate
Humid equatorial, hot all year round, with a rainy season from December to July and a dry season from August to November.
Languages
French is official. Guyanese Creole, Portuguese, Amerindian languages and languages of immigrant communities (Haitian, Surinamese, etc.) are also spoken.
Driving
Drive on the right. Main roads connect Cayenne, Kourou and Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni. There are no toll roads.
Camping
Wild camping is possible in natural areas, but limited by the dense rainforest. There are organized campsites and eco-lodges.
Biker Zones
Interesting routes include the RN1 coastal road (Cayenne-Kourou-Saint-Laurent) and secondary roads that penetrate the forest.
Special Zones
Cayenne has pedestrian zones and controlled parking in the center. Areas of the Kourou Space Center have restricted access.
