Slovakia is a Central European country famous for its medieval castles, mountains and traditional villages. The capital, Bratislava, is located on the Danube River, on the border with Austria and Hungary. The country is also known for its natural landscapes, such as the Tatra Mountains, a popular destination for hiking and skiing.

Climate

The climate is continental, with hot summers and cold winters. In the mountains, temperatures can be harsh in winter, with frequent snowfalls.

Languages

The official language is Slovak. There are minorities who speak Hungarian, Ukrainian and Romani in some regions. English is spoken mainly in tourist areas.

Driving

Drive on the right. To drive on highways, you need to buy an electronic sticker, which can be purchased online, in service areas or at gas stations.

Camping

Wild camping is prohibited, although it is tolerated in some rural and mountainous areas. The country has regulated campsites.

The roads in the Tatra Mountains and the Orava region are popular with motorcyclists. There are also beautiful routes along the Danube.

Bratislava has traffic restrictions in the historic center, which is mostly pedestrianized. Parking in the central areas is paid.
