Russia is the largest country in the world, stretching across Europe and Asia. It is famous for its history, culture, monumental architecture (such as the Kremlin and Red Square in Moscow, or the Hermitage in St. Petersburg) and the vast steppes of Siberia and the Far East.

Climate

Extremely varied: humid continental in the European part, subarctic and polar in the north, arid in some southern regions. Long, harsh winters in most of the territory.

Languages

Russian is official. There are more than 100 recognized regional languages (Tatar, Bashkir, Chechen, among others). English is rarely spoken outside the big cities.

Driving

Drive on the right. There are modern highways, many with tolls (paid in booths or electronic systems). The quality of the roads varies greatly between large cities and rural areas.

Camping

Wild camping is generally permitted in natural and remote areas, although caution is advised. There are also organized campsites.

Biker Zones

The Trans-Siberian is the most legendary route. The Golden Ring (north of Moscow), the roads of the Caucasus and routes through Siberia are popular with adventurous motorcyclists.

Moscow and St. Petersburg have central pedestrian zones, paid parking and traffic restrictions in historic areas.
