Card payments are very limited, the country continues to operate almost exclusively with cash.

Libya is located in North Africa, with vast desert areas (Sahara) and a Mediterranean coastline. It is known for the Roman ruins of Leptis Magna and Sabratha, oases and cities such as Tripoli and Bengasi.

Climate

Mediterranean on the coast (mild winters, hot summers) and desert inland, with extreme temperatures.

Languages

Arabic is official. Berber dialects are spoken in some regions. Italian and English are in limited use.

Driving

Drive on the right. There are main roads, but many are dilapidated. There are no relevant tolls.

Camping

Wild camping is possible in remote areas, but not recommended for safety reasons. There are few formal campsites.

Biker Zones

Routes through the Libyan desert and the Mediterranean coast are spectacular, but currently difficult to access due to instability.

Special Zones

Tripoli has heavy traffic; many urban areas have restricted or controlled access.
