Bolivia is one of the most authentic countries in South America, with a strong indigenous heritage. It is known for the Salar de Uyuni (the largest salt desert in the world), Lake Titicaca, the Altiplano and colonial cities such as Sucre and Potosí.
Climate
Very diverse: humid tropical in the Amazon, arid in the Altiplano and cold in the mountains.
Languages
Spanish is predominant, but millions of people speak Quechua and Aymara. There are also many other indigenous languages.
Driving
Drive on the right. The roads can be challenging, with many at altitude and in poor condition. Some roads have simple tolls, paid at booths.
Camping
Wild camping is possible in many regions, especially in remote areas. There are also basic campsites near tourist areas.
Biker Zones
The famous Yungas Road is an icon for motorcyclists. Other popular routes include the Altiplano, Salar de Uyuni and the Andes.
Special Zones
In La Paz and other larger cities, traffic is heavy and there are pedestrian zones and controlled parking.
