Montenegro is a small Balkan country with a stunning Adriatic coastline, impressive mountains and medieval villages. The capital, Podgorica, is modern and serves as a gateway to the country’s beautiful natural landscapes.

The coast has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Inland, the climate is continental, with cold winters and hot summers.

The official language is Montenegrin. Serbian, Bosnian and Albanian are spoken by minorities in different regions.

Camping

Wild camping is generally prohibited, but there are areas that are allowed with local authorization. There are regulated campsites along the coast and in the mountains.

The coastal roads and routes through the mountainous interior, including Durmitor National Park (entrance fee), are much appreciated.

Access to the historic areas of cities like Kotor can be limited and parking controlled.
