Norway is famous for its fjords, mountains and unique natural landscapes. It is also one of the most developed countries in the world, with a high standard of living.
Climate
The climate varies: coastal (mild but humid), continental inland, and arctic in the north. Cold winters and short summers.
Languages
The official language is Norwegian (with two official variants). Sami is recognized in some northern regions. English is widely spoken.
Driving
Drive on the right. Many roads and tunnels have automatic tolls (AutoPASS) and many crossings of the fjords are by ferry, to avoid detours of kilometers.Payment is made electronically or by invoice sent to the foreign driver. To avoid administrative fees, we recommend registering for 2 systems, one for tolls and one for ferries.
FerryPay – Automatic payment of ferries by card and no device required.
Epass24 – Automatic toll payment by card and no device required. The AutoPASS system has discounts but requires a device in the vehicle, which has to be sent to the address, which takes longer.
Camping
Wild camping is allowed (Allemansretten), and you can camp for one night in any non-private or cultivated site, respecting nature.
Biker Zones
Iconic roads such as the Trollstigen, Atlantic Road and the fjord routes are legendary among motorcyclists.
The journey to the Nordkapp (North Cape – the northernmost point of continental Europe) is one of every traveler’s dream destinations.
Special Zones
The city centers of Oslo and Bergen have traffic restrictions and paid parking.
