Algeria is the largest country in Africa, with much of its territory covered by the Sahara desert. It is known for its Roman ruins, vast deserts, Atlas Mountains and coastal cities such as Algiers and Oran.

Climate

Mediterranean on the coast, semi-arid inland and desert in the Sahara. Mild winters on the coast and very hot summers inland.

Languages

Arabic is official, as is Tamazight. French is widely used in education and business.

Driving

Drive on the right. The East-West highway is the main highway in the country. Some sections are gated, paid for manually.

Camping

Wild camping is possible in rural areas, but less common. There are campsites in tourist areas.

Biker Zones

Routes in the Algerian Sahara and the Atlas Mountains are popular with adventurous motorcyclists.

Special Zones

Algiers has central pedestrian zones and heavy traffic.
