Arid and semi-arid. Hot, dry summers, with some rain inland; mild winters. The coast is cool due to the cold Benguela Current.

English is official, but Afrikaans, German and several local languages (Oshivambo, Nama, Herero) are widely spoken.

Drive on the left. The main roads are in good condition, but many are gravel. There are practically no tolls.

Wild camping is tolerated in remote areas, but it is recommended to use organized campsites (many within national parks).

Biker Zones

Scenic roads include the Namib Desert, the Damaraland region and the Swakopmund-Walvis Bay coastal road.

Special Zones

Windhoek has paid parking areas in the center. In protected natural areas, access is restricted.
