Laos is an authentic destination for motorcyclists, with roads winding through jungle-covered mountains, imposing rivers and traditional villages, offering adventure and tranquillity in equal measure.

Laos is the only landlocked country in Indochina, crossed by the Mekong River. It is known for its nature, Buddhist temples and cities such as Luang Prabang (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

Climate

Tropical monsoon, with a rainy season from May to October and a dry season from November to April.

Languages

Lao is official. Regional dialects and ethnic languages (Hmong, Khmu) are also spoken. English is used in tourism.

Driving

Drive on the right. Main roads are reasonable, but many secondary roads are narrow and winding. There are few highways and few tolls.

Camping

Wild camping is not common. There are guesthouses and some campsites in tourist areas.

Biker Zones

Popular routes include the road from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang and the northern mountains.

Special Zones

The center of Vientiane and Luang Prabang has pedestrian zones and controlled traffic.
