Peru is one of the most historic countries in South America, the cradle of the Inca Empire. It is famous for Machu Picchu, Cusco, Lake Titicaca, the Sacred Valley and the Peruvian Amazon. Lima, the capital, is also one of the most important gastronomic hubs in the world.
Climate
Very diverse: arid and desert on the coast, humid tropical in the Amazon and cold in the Andean regions.
Languages
Spanish is predominant. Quechua and Aimará are official in several regions. Other indigenous languages are still spoken in Amazonia.
Driving
Drive on the right. Many roads are winding and cross the Andes. There are toll roads, which you pay for in booths.
Camping
Wild camping is allowed in rural areas, but it is not common. There are campsites and designated areas at tourist sites.
Biker Zones
The most iconic routes include the Pan-American Highway along the coast, the curves of the Andes and the climb up to Cusco/Machu Picchu.
Special Zones
In Lima and other big cities, there are areas of heavy traffic, pedestrian streets and controlled parking.
