Uruguay is one of the smallest countries in South America, but with a high quality of life. It is famous for its Atlantic beaches (Punta del Este, Piriápolis), the capital Montevideo and the historic center of Colonia del Sacramento.

Climate

Temperate climate, with hot summers and mild winters, without climatic extremes.

Languages

Spanish is official. There are Portuguese influences on the border with Brazil (portuñol). English is spoken in tourist areas.

Driving

Drive on the right. Some highways have tolls, paid manually in booths (cash/card). Roads are generally of good quality.

Camping

Wild camping is tolerated in some coastal areas, but more common are organized campsites.

Biker Zones

The coastal roads between Montevideo and Punta del Este are very popular with motorcyclists.

Special Zones

Montevideo has paid parking areas in the center and pedestrian areas in the Old Town.
